The brief called for a design showing its appropriateness for all ages with a tolerance for some whimsy or playfulness in the design while avoiding what is most typically associated with organic food packaging.
Things clicked for me when I thought to introduce an animal mascot for the brand. The slow loris, a primate native to Southeast Asia, seemed like such a good animal for this. There was a need to fill out the space with design elements and while searching for appropriate symbols (lotus flowers, geometric shapes) I went back to the source - the rice plant. While this didn't give much of a visual motif, the terraced rice fields were amenable to being made into repeatable and visually appealing abstract patterns.
I wanted bold colours, avoiding earth tones generally associated with organic foods but also trying to avoid common food package colour combinations.
