Our audience are young professionals with salary starting 50K, Latino community members, non-Latinos who would like to help address community problems but don’t know how, and passionate volunteers. We expect to appeal to both genders and all ages. We also would like the site to be accessible through standard computers and mobile devices. We like simple, colorful (green, blue and maybe mango) pictures of Latino families together, kids in school, people engaging in healthy activities, the arts or community improvement.

The goal of Comunidades is to bring together Latinos across Philadelphia for the purpose of encouraging philanthropy within the city’s Latino community. Based on a giving circle model, Comunidades promotes community-driven philanthropy by pooling together relatively small donations contributed by local business owners, organizations and individuals who choose to join the circle. Every person or organization contributing at least $200 is considered a member, and is given one vote. The number of votes given to each member increases as the size of their donation increases, so that members making larger donations have greater numbers of votes. Once these donations are collected, Comunidades then solicits ideas from community-based organizations seeking grants for projects benefiting Philadelphia’s Latino community. All project ideas will undergo an initial process of review and evaluation conducted by the Comunidades board, through which the board determines if the project idea meets the Comunidades eligibility requirements, and falls within one of five predetermined funding focus areas. Focus areas include Arts, Education, Neighborhood Improvement, Social Justice and Health & Wellness. Each year board members will choose one of these funding areas to focus on. Projects ideas that pass this initial review process are then submitted to Comunidades members for voting. The projects receiving the most votes will be funded.

Despite providing an aesthetically pleasing design, working with Sumarto has been incredibly difficult as he hasn't made the changes we requested and it has been weeks since he delayed implementing them during the alotted time despite us offering additional work for other projects which is baffling. I highly encourage people to work with designers with better communication etiquette and openness to direction as this hasn't been a great experience.
