A WEB-BASED CALCULATOR FOR THE PURPOSE OF HELPING CONSUMERS FIGURE OUT THE COST BASIS OF THEIR HOME
When a person in the United States buys a home, they need to keep track of the amount that they have spent on the house in various ways, in order to be able to properly determine the taxes due on any appreciation at the time of the sale. The web page will be a subscription-based service which will include a calculator, storage of records, integration with a web-based property valuation system, and annual reports and reminders on tax-related items. It will also include a calculation mechanism for documenting home-office income tax deductions, moving expense tracking and deductions and similar related free or inexpensive calculators, and the ability to download materials to do the work yourself. We will eventually include modules for rental properties, vacation properties, analysis tools for whether you should rent your property out, things like that.
Our target audience is homeowners, ideally younger homeowners. This is a financially related site, but we want to make this a bit more fun and upscale, not lame and stuffy.
The primary subscription-based tool will be a wizard that collects information on the home, and provides the required tax information. It will be designed so that a lay-person can use it.
