RMS is a non-profit organization thatt provides networking and professional development opportunities for those who study, protect and manage rivers in the US and Canada. Members include federal agency staff like river rangers on the Grand Canyon or on rivers located in state parks; professors of environmental science or outdoor recreation planning;civil engineers, aquatic biologists and hydrologists, and river conservation advocates.

This project aims to create a graphic that represents an upcoming event, teh 2014 River Management Symposium. We hold these in 'even' years (with somewhat similar 'workshops' on the odd years) with subtitles. The 2014 title is 'Managing Rivers in Changing Climes". The graphic should include the following text: the title, '2014 River Management Symposium,' 3) the date 'April 15-17, 2014' and 4) 'Denver, Colorado USA'T and allow for us the option of adding a 'presented by ____________' if we secure a big sponsor. The symposium will host 300 educators, people who work for power companies, professors, students and municipal leaders like public works directors. Exciting, huh? :) The graphic will be used as a representation of the 2014 event on the website and email notices; a printed program that is handed out to attendees; 18"x24" posters and a 2'x4' banners on site; advertisement in our own or other publications; and possibly as a poster that we print as a keepsake. We have identified a photograph that we'd like to use in some way - one that lends itself to a host of treatments, I think: text can be used on it or around it. The reason I like it is that it reflects the state of our nation's rivers and the topics that will be covered: they are beautiful, don't ask to be abused with pollution or to be piped thousands of miles away, and can look serious because they are powerful and vulnerable. I am attaching the photo we'd like to use, two examples of past conference graphics and one example of another past event graphic shown on a sponsorship program layout. Please let me know if you don't see four attachments (1 photo, 3 pdfs).
It seems best to come up with a concept for the program, website and poster, then discuss how it would translate to a banner and advertisement. The photo I've suggested is a horizontal one and programs are usually vertical in format: This may make the image a non-starter, or might trigger an unusual treatment...or maybe a program that flips up like a calendar!! This might provide an opportunity for you to create something clever but not too weird. Also, it would be good if it can translate to black and white for the inevitable times materials will be photo copied or printed from b/w printers. That may be asking a lot, but it's on my mind.
