Our latest initiative, StartHer in Health will distribute reusable sanitary pads to vulnerable school girls in South Africa, with the goal of keeping them in school during menstruation. “A third of girls in South Africa miss school during menstruation.” – PLOS Medical Journal The reusable sanitary pads have been developed by a team of passionate South African women. They have used their manufacturing and design expertise to create a premium quality pad, that will ensure girls can stay in school during menstruation, fulfil their potential and pursue their dreams. “Our main objective when developing the pad was to achieve a safe and dignified value product, comfort, an aesthetically pleasing feminine design, all round efficacy that any girl would feel proud and secure to use, regardless of her station in life. We believe that we have done so.” – Designer and Manufacturer The pads come in a pack of 5. They will last up to 5 years and see girls through their important school years. These pads will be distributed to in need girls in some of the hardest to reach parts of rural South Africa, enabling them to stay in education (see attached image of pack of pads). Quelles sont vos idées ?
We need a flyer that can be inserted into the front of the pads packaging and bring to life the StartHer in Health mission. It must appeal to teenage South African girls as well as our corporate partners as ultimately, they are the supporters of the initiative. The design must be to the standard of a Western consumer brand. It must also have potential to translate into future website banners, brochure designs and other marketing materials. The flyer will be double-sided, 170mm x 170 mm and will fit inside the front of the cellophane pack of pads. As a result, one side of the flyer will be visible, acting as the marketing packaging. The other side will include the ‘How to use’ information and care instructions (please see the image attached). Both sides of the flyer should be designed. The colours used on the flyer should work with the colour of the pads which will be visible through the back of the clear cellophane packet (see attached image of pads for colour). The Key Message: With these pads, girls will be empowered to stay in school and fulfil their potential. The message should be uplifting, inspirational and empowering. It should convey the liberation that comes from education, the pursuit of dreams and empowerment of girls. The Theme: Based on the phrase ‘Pelo Ya Mosadi’ which means ‘The Heart of the Girl’, the theme should be interpreted in two ways. Firstly, conveying menstruation as a fundamental part (i.e. the ‘heart’) of becoming a woman. Secondly, the idea that girls’ dreams and aspirations come from their hearts. With both elements, the design will deliver the key message; that by being empowered to stay in school, girls can fulfil their dreams. To summarise, in the final handover we are looking for: • A 170mm by 170mm design for the front and back of a flyer that will sit inside a pack of reusable sanitary pads: The front of the flyer must include: - WildHearts Logo (see attached) - The phrase ‘Pelo Ya Mosadi’ The back of the flyer must include: - The graphics on how to use the pads (see attached) - The ‘how to use’ text instructions (see attached) • The design must appeal to poor school girls of menstruating age in South Africa. • The design must also appeal to a corporate audience who are ultimately the supporters of the initiative. • The design must incorporate the concept of ‘The Heart of the Girl’ and the message of empowerment. • No garish colours but a clean design incorporating the themes and concepts outlined. • The design must feature the WildHearts Logo as outlined.
