Our campaign aims to encourage bystander action on gender inequity. “Courageous conversations” hopes to inspire individuals to have the courageous conversation and take action against gender inequity, such
• Sexist comments
• Rigid gender stereotypes
• Violence against women
• Power imbalances between men and women
The campaign is a key feature in a regional ‘Preventing Violence against Women and Children’ strategy. This primary prevention strategy takes a whole of community approach to prevent violence against women and children through addressing the determinants. The strategy endeavours to increase gender equity in key settings such as sporting clubs, local government, workplaces, maternal and child health and education. In these settings we aim to increase women’s participation and increase their leadership, create more family friendly environments and enable these settings to actively take ownership in the prevention of violence against women. We hope to create environments that are inclusive and welcoming, and that promote respectful relationships between men and women.
Courageous Conversations will be taken into each of these key settings, hoping to inspire and enable action. We hope to support individuals and whole of organisations to begin their courageous conversations on violence against women and take action on gender inequity.
