Kenkan is an Akan, a local Ghanaian dialect which means to read and Khanya is a Zulu word which means to shine, or to make bright, or to enlighten or to educate or shed light upon something.
KenKhanya (To Read and Enlighten) is a social enterprise that provides student access to educational materials and contents through innovation and technology with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa.
Our mission is to transform Education in Sub Saharan Africa through Innovation and Technology and to be a vehicle of change by providing comprehensive educational content that can be delivered through a series of innovative and technology mechanisms, thus removing physical and cultural barriers in knowledge dissemination.
We use simple, affordable and accessible technology and up to now we work on two platforms: e-readers – great reading experience, low penetration (but growing) and Feature phones – good reading experience, enormous penetration (and growing)
We work with students and communities in both deprived areas in rural and urban areas to provide educational materials and contents through e-reader and mobile technology that will increase their desire to read more and better and improve their lives.
********* Updated - Additional information about the logo *****************
We are looking for a simple, sleek, cool and abstract logo. The whole idea about the logo is whenever someone sees it, what should come to their mind or attention is about digital, convenience, access, E-book, reading and technology. We are in between technical and digital content/e-book company and the final sets of logo should reflect that. Hope this helps! for the finalist designers
