Our company does fundamental research, statistics & algorithms, to be included in software for healthcare: hence the reference to big software companies and big healthcare companies.

We also have the objective to be a pleasant company to work for for scientists and geeks. They should be proud of showing their business cards with the company logo and name on it.

Target audience: cool R&D engineers in physics, computer engineering in North-East Asia. And ... white collars Investors, Big healthcare companies, insurers doctors.

There is no perfect logo. I uploaded logos from companies in our sectors... and a test logo I did (ugly, I must admit).

One of our first software is a learning engine, observing behavior and catching problems fast. Hence the idea of the "Cormorant watching from above and ready to intervene" on the (ugly) temptative logo. One of the initial idea was to do a far more stylized version of the cormorant, showing lines expressing movement, speed and agility. But that would not solve the overall question (how to have a small version of the logo for software icons if lines are very long, flat design or modern 3D style, shadow or no shadow, where is the data analysis and science feeling etc...?) In general: don't make it too literal (no vials, no computers etc...)
We are iterative people, therefore seeing your multiple ideas will help a lot in deciding.
