✪ It all started with a dirty old notebook.
Passed down a few generations and ending up on the desk of the owner of a leading martial arts equipment specialist was a dirty antique notebook with basically the marketing plan for a 103 year old brand.
✪ Lightbulb went on....
Months of whiteboarding and the modern version of “MARTIAL STAR” Brand was born. Now the one missing piece of the puzzle is the brand logo which will form part of a complete new division of the clients company dedicated to casual martial arts products and be showcased on all their products and many martial arts tournaments and major events worldwide.
✪ The parent company is BIG, trust us!
The logo is basically slated to become a household recognizable symbol for martial arts enthusiasts worldwide and we would love the designer we choose to come along for the ride and help out with all design tasks the brand needs.
✪ It's a job for a Yoda like Retro or Vintage Design Master.
Design style wise the owner is a passionate collector (like warehouses full) of vintage and retro bikes, appliances and electrical equipment so that gives you a good idea of his taste.
One of the owner's favourite things to collects is those vintage metal name / brand plates off old electrical equipment so if you keep your concepts somewhere loosely around that genre I think you will be pretty safe.
✪ Epicness is a minimum requirement..
It's not just a logo for a website or a business card we are looking for here, here the logo forms the centrepiece of a brand destined for international fame.
We want the logo to instantly sell the product based on the strength of the logo itself.
I realize that's easy to say but I've worked with some truly amazing designers over the years and never underestimate the really cool random stuff that can come out of designers heads at times.
SuperDry is a perfect example of the type of style direction the client is heading where the retro logo will form the centrepiece of a lot of the products.
✪ Why 99D?
Yeah, I get that this competition model kind of sucks and it's an unusual way for us to contract a designer also. but...
Vintage / Retro is a very hard genre to get right, many think they have it but are miles off and can never get on track even with a million revisions.
We already spent a tonne of pocket money on a couple of freelance designers that despite being awesome, vintage just wasn't their thing and could never nail it so decided to try crowdsourcing the design instead.
We will provide instant feedback and eliminate any designs very quickly if they are not on track so not to waste a second more of your time than we have to.
Think of the contest of more of a job interview, the winning logo will form part of a tonne of design that we will likely as you to do for us over many years as we build and develop this brand.
