The aim of this graphic is to bust common myths about Australia's economic situation.
The graphic will start with a quote at the top about the general economic situation:
“[Labor] didn’t hand us an economy that was better than we thought. In fact… what they left… was a mess.” Joe Hockey, Treasurer
The graphic will then have 3 myths and the facts about them. the myths are:
Myth 1: Australia has a lot of debt
WRONG: It has been higher for most of our history.
Since 1950 we have had an average debt of 32% of GDP. Today it is 21%.
For this myth the last line about the average debt doesn't need to be as large as the line that says 'It has been higher for most of our history'. This is because this line is not as important and just adds a bit of extra detail.
Myth 2: Australia is a high taxing country
WRONG: Australia is the 4th lowest taxing country in the OECD.
Myth 3: Australia has a big spending government
WRONG: Government spending in Australia is the 4th lowest in the OECD.
We were thinking that some kind of stamp that says 'Wrong' or maybe having a cross next to each myth as if you were marking school work.
I am excited to see how you present these ideas.
